General Position Description: Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy Operations, the pharmacist is responsible for the education and counseling of patients and filling of patient prescriptions. Position Title: Emergency Department Operations Manager
Organization: Provena Mercy Medical Center
Location: Aurora, IL

Provena Mercy Medical Center is a 356-bed, Joint Commission accredited, hospital based in the western Chicago suburb of Aurora, Illinois. Provena Mercy Medical Center is seeking a visible, hands-on, competency driven, operations focused leader to assume the role of Emergency Department Operations Manager. This position reports directly to the Director of Emergency and Trauma Services and will serve as a member of the Patient Care Services leadership team. The new Operations Manager will play a key role in helping to achieve the highest quality healthcare in a clinically and fiscally accountable manner.

The Emergency Department Operations Manager will oversee approximately 75 employees equaling 55 FTEs with an overall operating budget responsibility of $8.1 million and $81 million in revenue generation. The ED Registrars also report to the ED Operations Manager. The service is supported by Advanced
Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants contracted through the ED Physician provider group, and a hospital based Clinical Nurse Specialist. Approximately 70 percent of the patient care services staff is registered nurses, supported by ED techs, and a unit clerk. Annual Emergency Department visits are targeted at
45,000. Planned staffing for peak volume includes nine nurses, three techs, and a unit clerk. The Emergency Department consists of 26 rooms and 5 Fast Track beds.

The Emergency Department Operations Manager will be accountable for: Establishing strong relationships with the administrative and clinical leadership team to establish positive working relationships; demonstrate a visible management style that is proactive, engaging, hands-on, and customer focused; participate in the continuing development of service excellence, with a focus on patient and employee satisfaction; and enhance formal and informal interdisciplinary departmental communication mechanisms.

Qualifications and Personal Characteristics: Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration or Nursing required. A Master's in a healthcare related field is preferred. Two years of leadership supervisory experience, and five years relevant ED experience required with a focus on patient flow and capacity
management. Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop staff; maintains a strong leadership presence displaying a visible management style. Experience in patient flow and throughput management desirable.
